After four weeks as the top movie in America, The Dark Knight finally yielded the spot to the action comedy Tropic Thunder despite the threat of boycotts. Here's the top five:

1. Tropic Thunder: $25.8 million
2. The Dark Knight: $16.4 million
3. Star Wars: The Clone Wars: $14.6 million
4. Mirrors: $11.2 million
5. Pineapple Express: $9.8 million

Four more new releases this week. Will any of them be able to knock Tropic Thunder's, um, thunder? Let's see:

Death Race
What's It All About: Jason Statham stars in this reimagining of Roger Corman's Death Race 2000. In the not too distant future prison inmates are given a chance for freedom by taking part in a brutal cross-country race that can have only one survivor.
Why It Might Do Well: The summer blockbuster season is on the wane, and since this is the only action flick coming out this week, Death Race may benefit from the public's need to see things blow up. Also, Statham does have his admirers.
Why It Might Not Do Well: You can only watch so many spectacular car wrecks.
Number of Theaters: 2,400
Prediction: $15 million



The House Bunny
What's It All About: Anna Faris plays a Playmate who is evicted from the Playboy mansion for daring to reach the ripe old age of 27. Trying to find a job in the real world, she takes a position as house mother to a sorority full of socially inept girls (though if you've seen the post-makeover shots, they clean up pretty good).
Why It Might Do Well: The similarities to Legally Blonde (House Bunny is written by the same folks) may be enough to entice some people into the theatre.
Why It Might Not Do Well: One look at the trailer, though, should convince you that this rehash failed to include any of the wit and charm of the original.
Number of Theaters: 2,600
Prediction: $11 million

The Longshots
What's It All About: Ice Cube stars as a football coach in this true story about the first Pop Warner team to have girl playing quarterback.
Why It Might Do Well: There's always room for a good underdog story (unless we're actually talking about Underdog).
Why It Might Not Do Well: This is the smallest release of the week, and for a public still looking for something similar to The Dark Knight or even Pineapple Express, this will be a tough sell.
Number of Theaters: 2,000
Prediction: $5 million

The Rocker
What's It All About: The Office's Rainn Wilson stars as a drummer who was kicked out of a hair metal band back in the 80s right before they hit it big. Now he has a chance for redemption when his nephew asks him to play with his band at the prom.
Why It Might Do Well: Wilson is a funny guy, and how can you not sympathize with this spandex version of Pete Best?
Why It Might Not Do Well: Rottentomatoes.com is reporting only 37% Fresh as of this writing, and a similarity to School of Rock is turning some critics off.
Number of Theaters: 2,700
Prediction: $10 million
